Why do asynchronous motors use squirrel cage rotors

The reason why asynchronous motors use squirrel cage rotors is mainly based on their simplified structure, high cost-effectiveness, and wide applicability. Specifically, they have the following characteristics: simple structure, low cost, reliable operation, easy maintenance, efficient operation, wide applicability, and improved starting performance. In summary, squirrel cage rotors have become one of the most commonly used types of asynchronous motors in the industrial field due to their comprehensive advantages.

Why do asynchronous motors use squirrel cage rotors

The reason why asynchronous motors use squirrel cage rotors is mainly based on their simplified structure, high cost-effectiveness, and wide applicability, as follows:

1. Simple structure and low cost
The squirrel cage rotor has no complex components such as collector rings and electric brushes, and is only composed of copper/aluminum bars and end rings. The manufacturing process is simple and suitable for large-scale production, significantly reducing manufacturing costs.

2. Reliable operation and easy maintenance
No sliding contact parts, minimal wear, low failure rate, suitable for harsh environments (such as dust and humidity), low maintenance requirements, and long service life.

3. Efficient operation
The rotor conductor has low resistance, low copper consumption during operation, high energy efficiency, and is suitable for long-term stable operation of constant speed loads (such as water pumps, fans, etc.).

4. Widely applicable scenarios
Suitable for scenarios with low speed regulation requirements, such as machine tools, compressors, conveyor belts, washing machines, etc., and can be started directly or through pressure reducing devices (such as star delta starters).

5. Improve startup performance
Deep groove/dual squirrel cage design: By increasing the rotor resistance, the starting current is reduced while maintaining low losses during operation, making it particularly suitable for large capacity motors (such as 100kW and above).

Aluminum casting/welding process: Small and medium-sized motors use aluminum casting guide bars, while large motors improve the uniformity and conductivity of the guide bars through welding technology.

In summary, the squirrel cage rotor has become one of the most commonly used types of asynchronous motors in the industrial field due to its comprehensive advantages.
