How about the missing phase of the electric motor
How about the missing phase of the electric motor: unable to start or starting abnormally, significant decrease in speed, abnormal increase in current, intensified heating and vibration, abnormal sound and noise
How about the missing phase of the electric motor
Motor phase loss can cause the following phenomena and consequences:
1、 Main phenomena
Unable to start or startup exception
When there is a phase loss, the motor cannot start or emits a strong "buzzing" sound during startup, as the rotor cannot form a stable rotating magnetic field.
Significant decrease in rotational speed
During operation, phase loss can cause a significant decrease in speed, which cannot meet the load requirements and may lead to overload.
Abnormal increase in current
Due to the imbalance of the magnetic field, the stator current will sharply increase, which may trigger the overcurrent protection device.
Increased heat and vibration
Excessive current can cause overheating of the winding, while magnetic field distortion can cause strong vibrations, which may damage the bearings and machine base.
Abnormal sounds and noise
Abnormal friction or high-frequency vibration noise is generated during the operation of the motor, and long-term operation will accelerate equipment wear.
2、 Potential consequences
Equipment damage: If the missing phase is not dealt with in a timely manner, the motor may burn out the windings or bearings due to overheating.
Safety risk: High current may cause short circuits or fire hazards, and immediate shutdown inspection is required.
3、 Suggestions for handling
Immediate shutdown inspection: Upon discovering a phase loss, the power supply should be immediately disconnected to investigate fuse, wiring, or winding faults.
Install protective devices: Prevent continuous operation due to phase loss by using undercurrent/overcurrent relays or zero sequence current protection.
